Here’s what you’ll pay

Typical teeth cleaning costs

Two things drive what you pay: the type of cleaning (routine vs. deep) and whether you have a PPO plan. Most PPO plans cover two preventive cleanings a year at or near 100%, so many patients pay little or nothing out of pocket.

Routine vs. deep

What affects your cost

Routine cleaning

Removes plaque and tartar from tooth surfaces and just above the gumline. The standard twice-a-year visit for healthy gums, and the one most PPO plans cover in full.

Deep cleaning

Scaling and root planing goes below the gumline to treat gum disease. It costs more because it’s a treatment requiring anesthesia and more time.

FAQ

Common questions about cost

How much is a teeth cleaning without insurance?
A routine adult cleaning is about $100 before insurance ($75 for children). A first visit with a comprehensive exam and X-rays comes to about $165–$179 before insurance (comprehensive exam $45, bitewing X-rays $20–$34 and an adult cleaning $100). We give you the full cost before you book.
Does insurance cover teeth cleanings?
Yes, for most PPO plans. Preventive cleanings are one of the most consistently covered benefits, typically at or near 100% for two visits a year. We verify your specific benefits before your visit.
Why does a deep cleaning cost more?
It’s a different procedure. A deep cleaning treats active gum disease below the gumline, requires local anesthesia, takes longer and is usually done over two visits. It’s priced per quadrant of the mouth, about $250 per quadrant at our office.
Will I get a surprise bill?
No. With insurance, we verify your benefits and give you your expected cost before you come in. Paying out of pocket, we give you the full total up front.
Do you offer payment plans or memberships?
Yes. We work with Cherry (3–24 months, 0% APR for those who qualify) and CareCredit (interest-free for 6 and 12 months). Our Clerri membership is $20/month for children (7–13) and $25/month for adults (14+), covering two cleanings, two exams, two fluoride treatments, X-rays, one emergency exam and 25% off additional treatment.
How often should I get a cleaning?
Most patients come twice a year, which lines up with what most PPO plans cover. Patients with gum disease may need more frequent visits.
