Protect what you have

A crown keeps a cracked or badly decayed tooth from getting worse. Protecting your tooth is almost always better than replacing it.

No surprises on cost

We verify your PPO benefits and give you the full cost in writing before any work starts.

Made to fit

Crown material is matched to your tooth and your bite, and we take the time to get the placement right.

When you need one

When do you need a dental crown?

A crown is the right call when a tooth has too much damage for a filling to hold.

Large cavity

When decay has removed so much of the tooth that a filling won’t last, a crown covers and supports what remains.

Cracked tooth

A crack heading toward the root needs to be covered before it spreads. A crown holds the tooth together.

After a root canal

A root-canal-treated tooth becomes more brittle over time. A crown protects it from breaking.

Worn or broken tooth

Grinding, an accident or a break can leave a tooth too short or uneven. A crown restores shape and height.

Anchoring a bridge

When a bridge replaces a missing tooth, the neighboring teeth are crowned to hold it in place.

What to expect

What getting a crown involves

Preparation visit

Your dentist shapes the tooth, takes an impression, and places a temporary crown to protect it.

Your crown is made

Your crown is custom-made at a dental lab from the impression, typically in one to two weeks.

Placement visit

The temporary comes off, and the permanent crown is checked for fit, bite and appearance before it’s cemented. Most patients are back to normal the same day.

Crown materials

Which type of crown is right for you?

Your dentist will recommend the material that makes the most sense for your specific tooth and bite.

All-ceramic and zirconia

Natural-looking and very strong. Works for front teeth, visible areas and back molars, and covers most cases.

E-max

An all-ceramic crown made from lithium disilicate, known for looking very much like a real tooth. A strong choice when appearance matters most.

Full gold

The most durable option, used for back molars and available by request. Pricing is confirmed once you choose a material.

FAQ

What patients ask

How much does a dental crown cost?
Crown pricing depends on the material, whether all-ceramic, zirconia, porcelain-fused-to-metal or gold, and on whether the tooth needs a core buildup first. Many PPO plans cover part of the cost, and we give you the full number in writing before your appointment.
Does getting a crown hurt?
The procedure is done with local anesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain during the appointment. Some tenderness around the tooth is normal for a day or two afterward.
How long does a crown last?
With regular care, most crowns last 10 to 15 years or longer. We check the fit and condition at every exam.
How long does it take to get a crown?
Crowns are custom-made at a dental lab, which typically takes one to two weeks. We place a temporary crown to protect your tooth in the meantime.
What happens if I don’t get the crown?
A tooth that needs a crown usually gets worse. Cracks extend, decay spreads, and a two-visit crown can turn into an extraction. We’ll always show you what we’re seeing so you understand the timeline.
