What are dental veneers?
Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of your teeth to change their color, shape, size and length. They’re one of the bigger steps in cosmetic dentistry.
What veneers can — and can’t — fix
Veneers work well for cosmetic issues on otherwise healthy teeth: stains whitening can’t lift, chips, small gaps, and teeth that are worn, uneven or oddly shaped.
They’re a surface treatment, so they aren’t the right tool for decay or gum disease (we treat those first), major bite or alignment problems, or heavy grinding without a nightguard. When several issues are in play, a smile makeover plan combines treatments in the right order.

What’s the process for getting veneers?
Plan the look
Your dentist plans the result with you, then removes a small amount of enamel (about half a millimeter) so porcelain veneers sit flush.
Scan and temporaries
You get a digital scan or impression and temporary veneers to wear while your permanent set is made.
Bond and adjust
At the second visit, your permanent veneers are bonded and adjusted. Composite veneers can often be done in one visit.
